The Logistical Challenges of Pipe Renovations

Entire apartments need to be emptied, and the stairwell has to be cleared every couple of weeks when someone moves to temporary housing. It’s challenging for both the residents and the construction workers,” explains Leif.
All Services Under One Roof
KunnonMuutto has been deeply involved in Revonpoukama’s pipe renovation. We’ve packed and transported the cooperative’s items from 11 shared spaces, including pool and sauna furniture, outdoor furniture, archives, shelters, drying rooms, boiler rooms, and tool storage. Everything was packed responsibly using largely recycled materials and stored in KunnonMuutto’s long-term warehouse. The impact on residents was minimal and entirely positive: despite the move taking a full day, there was no disruption.
Waste Removal as Part of the Service
During autumn 2023 at Revonpoukama, KunnonMuutto collected outdoor furniture for storage and waste for recycling.
The dumpster provided for the cooperative’s yard couldn’t be used for paint or other hazardous waste. To date, we’ve recycled 15 cubic meters of waste, including paints, old moldings, hazardous materials, and other items destined for recycling stations.
- “I hadn’t even thought that waste removal could be included in the service – it turned out to be an important and valuable addition that I wouldn’t have known to request! Thankfully, Akseli visited during the evaluation, and this came to light,” Leif shares.
KunnonMuutto also ensures its packing materials are either reused or recycled appropriately. Customers are only charged for materials that cannot be reused.
Apartment Relocation and Interim Storage
KunnonMuutto provided a quote for apartment moving services at Revonpoukama, though residents have so far arranged their temporary moves independently. If needed, we offer storage services to residents as well. For just a few months, it might not make sense to move all belongings to a temporary home, but clearing out an apartment is often the best way to protect items from renovation damage. This can also be a good opportunity to declutter, with the moving service taking unwanted items for recycling. Relocating for renovations doesn’t have to be difficult – it can even be enjoyable!
